Never mind the arse 3. The last painting I did, and it has been like half a year since then. I have been in the mood for watercolor for quite some time now, but this winter is soooo cold! (click to see the complete series)

And talking of perplexity reminds me of this painting I made years back titled ‘Tomba’s Predicament’/’Lapse of Reason’.

xytime:

After a long span, an unapologetic transformation of the mundane into the, well, video.

A new project on my video blog.

Read between the lines and you have an inch thick novel here. Fabulous.

Woudsterweg by Jan Mankes. This makes me want to start painting again.

We reached Manipur yesterday. We have just applied for an MFA course and which road our life take depends pretty much on the outcome of the application. If we get selected, the course starts in January (and if not then it doesn’t!), so we decided to spend the three months at home in Manipur. Apart from the personal things we need to get done here, we are thinking of taking up new projects during our stay.

I will be exploring photography and video as a medium. I am also thinking of translating my father’s plays. He is a Manipuri playwright. He passed away when I was 13 years old, and I didn’t have any chance to know him well as a person. Of course as a father I knew him well, but not enough about his thoughts on life in general. Fortunately, he left behind many plays which illustrates his worldview in a very quirky manner peculiar to him. So his plays hold more significance to me than as a literary work. It will be the first time I am trying my hands on translation and am not at all confident about it. But then why should that hold me down? It is more like a learning experience and a new way to engage with his ideas. Apart from that, I will be focusing on writings of my own as well. I am thinking of working on some short stories. Let’s see where it goes.

We are also thinking of initiating some community projects (art or not) here. It will be a very new thing and in fact challenging as we both are very introvert. I more so.

Kundo will be trying out her hands in homemade organic soaps and other skin-care essentials. She has brought dozens of different variety essential oils from Delhi to use in the soaps etc. This should be the most exciting project we will be doing here! She’ll talk more about it herself.

An old painting I did in college titled “Insomniac scissors”.
I am suspecting I may be becoming insomniac lately. I mean really insomniac. I have not been able to sleep for the last few days. And it’s not like I am doing something or thinking too deep about something and can’t sleep. I just lay on my bed and wait for sleep. And even if I manage to fall asleep, I wake up after a couple of hours. In the daytime I’ll always be like shit I need a nap, but as soon as I lay down, I can’t sleep anymore.
A weird illustration of the green grass on the other side case this is.

Amasoong, which means ‘and’ in Manipuri, is the mastermind of two creative Delhi-based personalities, Korou Khundrakpam and Kundo Yumnam, who are originally from the North Eastern Indian state of Manipur. Working under the banner of Amasoong since 2009, their individual and collaborative art practices are informed by a strong need to “dig up dirt” in contemporary society. Previous projects have seen them successfully tackle portentous abstract notions, ranging from patriotism and nationalism to war and power struggles, by deconstructing them into deceptively simple concepts that demand a more critical involvement on the part of the viewer.
